What Are You Living For And What Will It Matter In Eternity?

By David J. Stewart | August 2014 | Updated April 2016

1st Timothy 6:17-19,  “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”

I rarely go out to eat, but when I do, it's like Six Flags Great America for me. I feel sorry for people who spoil themselves so much by eating out all the time and pampering themselves with entertainment, that they have to take extravagant vacations which cost several thousand dollars each trip to have a memorable time. I don't go out much, but when I do, I really have a nice time with simple things. A little bit goes a long way with me, and it doesn't take much to make me happy. I've never been to Walt Disney world, don't desire to go there, and wouldn't go if you paid me because of their sick homosexual “GAY DAY.” I digress.

I went out for a cheeseburger today (and it was really good). Thank you Jesus! As I sat at Fridays and waited for the food, I saw numerous television screens airing a baseball game. I heard some typical American band playing secular music on the restaurant's radio. I saw customers coming and going. I got to thinking about how short life is and how most people squander their lives away on meaningless things, like sports and music. I watched the baseball player swinging a stick at a ball and wondered if he's saved; and if he is saved, is he's doing anything as a born-again believer which will bring eternal rewards? I thought about the band performing on the radio and wondered if they were saved, and if they were doing anything of lasting value for eternity? The sad answer is that it is very unlikely. The sad fact is that nearly everyone is living for themselves. Philippians 2:20, “For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.”

“Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,
If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.”
—Missionary Charles T. Studd (1860-1931)

Consider our text passage of Scripture from 1st Timothy 6:17-19. Americans are some of the wealthiest people in the world, despite the steady economic downtrend (and it will only get worse, guaranteed, because of deindustrialization sending our jobs overseas, the deliberate open borders which are driving down wages, the fraudulent U.S. Federal Reserve System since 1913 that prints funny money out of thin air, and the blatant criminal theft by Wall Street thugs who've seized control of The White House). The United States is a shaky house of cards, and it's eventually going to crumble. When the economy implodes, Americans will beg like dogs for the United Nations (UN) to help them, and it has already begun. Recently Detroit, Michigan residents begged the UN for water.

Having said that, our text verse says to charge them that are rich in this world to DO GOOD. The word “rich” is mentioned multiple times in 1st Timothy 6:17-19 and refers to one's earthly possessions. Most Americans wouldn't consider themselves rich, while owning an abundance of material possessions and tangible assets. Certainly, Americans are infamous around the world for their highminded arrogance, which verse 17 forbids. God hates arrogancy (Proverbs 8:13). Americans kicked the holy Bible and prayer out of America's classrooms since 1963, choosing rather to trust in uncertain riches. Look at our nation today and the mess that we have tolerated.

It was the preacher John Wesley who rightly said, “What one generation tolerates, the next generation will embrace.” Wesley was so right! Now you know why the Illuminati just want evangelical churches to “tolerate” homosexuality in America, because they fully know that the next generation of churchgoers WILL EMBRACE THE HOMOSEXUAL LIFESTYLE!!! Well, God will never embrace wickedness! The world and apostate churches may be changing, but the NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH founded upon Jesus Christ (1st Corinthians 3:11) is unchanging, because the Word of God is unchanging (1st Peter 1:23) and the Lord is unchanging (Hebrews 13:8)! As believers, we need to abide in the holy Scriptures, which are unchanging, as the insane world plunges deeper into the abyss of darkness and sin every day. I rejoice in God my Savior, Who has given to us His precious unchanging Word, as a Lamp unto our feet (Psalms 119:105) in this dark world of uncertainty, dreariness, heartaches, problems and evil.

So I ask you my friend, what are you doing with your life for God? God didn't save us to BE GOOD, but to DO GOOD. We are not humans doing, but HUMAN BEINGS! What are you doing for eternity? As I sat waiting for my food at the restaurant, I realized sadly that nearly everyone in this world is going to have absolutely NOTHING in eternity:

  1. First, Jesus warned in Matthew 7:13-14 that most people are on the highway that leads to destruction in the Lake of Fire, and only a few ever find the straight and narrow way unto life. It's kind of like the internet in a way. When you type something into a search engine, the same top websites will always show up on the first few pages. That's why I have learned as a habit to click on the 4th or 5th webpages while doing a search, so I can find purer websites instead of advertisements and all the monopolizing garbage which appears on the first couple pages. Most people join the top big religions which clamour for their attention, while the Word of God waits quietly for someone to hear and take heed to wisdom. If you die in your sins without Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and go to Hell, all of the good you may have done in this earthly life will be null and void. Luke 13:24, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”

  2. Second, if you are saved, praise God! However, you will be without rewards and unhappy in eternity if you realize in Heaven that you squandered away your life, when you had such a wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord, but you blew it! Now is your chance my friend, seize the moment! 1st Timothy 6:12, Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” There are so many things that we can and all should be doing for God. In all that we say and do, let's start looking for ways to please God by helping others in Jesus' precious name.

Redeeming The Time

Ephesians 5:16, “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Colossians 4:5, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.” The Greek word for “redeeming” in both of these Scriptures is exagorazō and means “to buy up, that is, ransom; figuratively to rescue from loss (improve opportunity).” In other words, time by nature is automatically wasted if we do nothing. The Bible doesn't say to redeem ourselves. No, the Lord did that when we were saved, redeemed by His precious blood (1st Peter 1:18-19). The Bible says to REDEEM THE TIME. Literally, we need to purposely, deliberately, make a conscious effort, to redeem our time from being squandered and idly wasted. How is your time on earth being used? Notice that the definition of redeeming means “to buy up, ransom.” Time is a precious resource. The Bible is teaching that we should prioritize our life so that our time can be best used to serve God.

The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power,
to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour;
To lose one's wealth is sad indeed, to lose one's health is more,
to lose your soul is such a loss, that no one can restore.

I love stringed musical instruments and could easily spend thousands of hours each year playing them if I desired, but I don't. I love playing everything from pedal steel guitar to acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele, slack key guitar, lap steel, classical guitar, et cetera. I spend a few hours each month playing them, sometimes more or less. It's not that I don't want to play them, it's just that there are more important things that I can do with my time (and my permanent neck injury really gets me down emotionally and physically regularly). I am redeeming the time as the Bible says. I choose to spend most of my time researching for my website ministry's articles, reading books, listening to MP3 preaching, praying for God's help so I can be of help to others in the Lord.

I've read umpteen websites over the years that ramble on-and-on, boring mumbo-jumbo, a sure cure for insomnia. I've tried to make my websites as interesting and concise as possible, eliminating unnecessary extra words that bog down an article. I don't always succeed. Sometimes my articles are a lot longer than I intended, but I think they are beneficial and interesting nonetheless. If you're a regular visitor, then you know that I always try to be clear and get right to the point. I don't make the reader wait until the end of the article to find the answer, unless it is a sermon intended to build interest. I usually come right out with the point I am trying to make, so as to avoid the point being missed. My only desire is to help others in the Lord, with a sincere spirit of love and concern.

When I go to church each Sunday and see the auditorium filled with 500 people, and then realize that is exactly how many people visit every single day just to my “Recent Articles” webpage, I am humbled and compelled to work that much harder for God! I am just a sinful man who has something to say, and people are coming to hear what this humble preacher has to say, and I love them all with God's unconditional love, desiring to help as many people as I can to find salvation and be happy in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is one way that I redeem the time. There are many things that we can all do, and it will be different for each person. I hate wasting time. It's ok to kick back and relax when necessary. Sometimes it is wise to use your time to recoup and get your batteries recharged so-to-speak. We all need a time-out sometimes.

Most of the Things That People Do Won't Reap Eternal Rewards

God is not going to reward us in Heaven for our hobbies, for having fun, selfish interests, making money, doing as we please, et cetera. Think about all the thousands-upon-thousands of hours that sports athletes spend in training and playing with a ball or a stick, for what? I'm not against sports, but I am against committing one's entire life to sports. God doesn't reward a person for spending thousands of hours playing a musical instrument. Some men commit their entire life to promoting a certain musical instrument, for what?

Music never saved anybody, but the preaching of the Gospel does. Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” I'm not against a musical career, but the Bible teaches that the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to them that believe. If your music is not centered around the preaching of the Gospel, it is all in vain. Music inspires people, but the Gospel saves them (to them that believe)! Music often makes people cry and feel warm inside, catapulting their emotions into the stratosphere, but only the Gospel can save them! Has anyone told you that the world is going to Hell? Wake up oh Christian!

I am saddened that the unsaved world is so quick to condemn and reject the Holy Bible without ever having closely studied its incredible origin, which only God could have done. There's no human way possible that approximately 40 writers over a 1,500 year period could pen 66 different books that all come together in perfect prophetic harmony, to give us our precious Bible. These men were of varying educational levels, spoke different languages, came from different backgrounds, lived in different countries and had very different personalities. Some were rich and others poor. Some were old and others young. Some were married and others unmarried. Archeology proves the miraculous origin of the Word of God. Over 5,000 manuscripts of the Bible have been unearthed, proving that one man or one group DIDN'T author the Bible as some people falsely claim.

No man has a legitimate excuse not to believe God's Word. God could have simply handed His Word to one man and been done with it. Why did God use a few dozen men as writers, over a period of 1,500 years, from all different backgrounds and languages, to give us His Word? The answer is obvious, that is, to prove the divine origin of the Holy Scriptures. God doesn't expect us to blindly believe with evidence. God is very fair to mankind, giving us an abundance of evidence.

I saw a documentary about youth who are addicted to video games. It is unbelievable how addicted some kids become. Literally, they interviewed one young man in his early twenties who was a powerful mayor in some popular online RPG (Role Playing Game), but in real life he felt like a loser in comparison, having only a minimum wage job, living at home with his parents. In the game he had servants, a wife, a house, money in the bank and everyone loved him, but in real life he felt like a loser having none of the above. The so-called “experts” are trying to figure out if such non-reality fantasy worlds are mentally damaging to today's youth. Everything that the Devil has to offer is tainted. All of Satan's apples have worms! Today's video games are being used by the Illuminati to instill smutty, lewd, nude images and behaviour into young men's minds to corrupt them. Many games allow the user to murder, hire a prostitute, steal and commit all sorts of virtual reality crimes. Video games are sin training simulators for our youth.

Jesus said that He came to give us life more abundantly. John 10:9-10, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” What has the Devil ever done for you?

Famous comedian Robin Williams was estimated to have a net worth when he died of about $125,000,000. Yet, he was suffering from Parkinson's disease, a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. The main symptom is depression, which is what Mr. Williams suffered from. At age 63 he commit suicide by hanging himself with a belt. It is so tragic. Even more tragic is that he apparently died without Jesus Christ as his Savior. I say that with great sadness, for God is not willing that any should perish. 2nd Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Robin Williams made so many people laugh and forget their problems for decades, yet he couldn't escape life's miseries himself. Being a Christian doesn't make life any easier, but it makes life better because we have God's Word to give us comfort and hope. Romans 15:4, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” The Scriptures were written FOR OUR LEARNING. Please don't misinterpret the word “patience” to mean “to be patient,” because it doesn't mean that. The Hebrew word for “patience” is hupomone, which means “cheerful endurance, constancy.” It means that the biographies of Old Testament saints who hung in there gives us comfort and hope! They waited upon the Lord and continued in their faith, through many difficult circumstances and afflictions.

When we read about the hardships of such saints as Abraham, whom God asked to leave everything and move to a strange land, it encourages us. Noah lost everything in the flood, literally, except his immediate family. Job's ten children were all killed, he lost his wealth, his servants were killed, and he lost his health. Yet Abraham, Noah and Job hung in there in their faith. They were not perfect men. Abraham lied, and at another time became impatient, impregnating Hagar. Noah got drunk. Job complained that he had ever been born and cursed his own life. Yet, these saints hung in there. We read about Ruth, who retained her virtue, even though she dwelt in the wicked land of Moab. The Bible teaches that we receive HOPE from the comfort of the Scriptures, from seeing how the saints gone before us have endured through personal, family and national hardships.

What are you living for? Many people live to make more money, which is a sorrowful way to live according to 1st Timothy 6:10. Others live for their family, who will hurt you and let you down at times. Many people live for them self, which is idolatry. We were created to please the Lord. Revelation 4:11, What Are You Living For And What Will It Matter In Eternity? Revelation 4:11, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” Amen! Jesus Christ created ALL THINGS!!! Beware of the new corrupted Bible versions which change John 1:3 to say that all things were created “through Him” instead of “by Him.” The trustworthy King James Bible says, “By Him.” As you just read in Revelation 4:11, Jesus created ALL THINGS!!! The modern Bible revisions all attack the deity of Jesus Christ.

2nd Corinthians 4:18, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

What are you living for? Forget your plans and follow God's plans for your life instead. God knew who Jeremiah was before he was even conceived in his mother's womb. What a beautiful thought to know that God knew me, and what my entire life would involve, including all the hardships and painful sorrows, before I was even conceived in the womb. God in His foreknowledge foresaw your life too. Although time and chance happens to everyone (Ecclesiastes 9:11), nothing can happen in our life outside of the permissive will of God (Philippians 2:13). We are only as a successful in life as we succeed at fulfilling God's plan for our life. “I Don't Want To Be A Success” (MP3, Dr. Jack Hyles, “Mr. Trump... that's not 'good success'!”). You're only a good success if God says you're a good success.

“The measurement of greatness is not how many came to say goodbye as I left,
but how many will greet me when I arrive
[in Heaven]
!”

The Goodness Of God Leadeth To Repentance
(MP3, Dr. Hyles; true Biblical repentance explained)

Not praying for others is a sin. 1st Samuel 12:23, “Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way.” There were 10,080 minutes in the past week, did you pray for anyone for even a single minute of that time? God knows and so do you.
