Perilous Times Of Human Selfishness

2nd Timothy 3:1-5, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

This is one of the most fascinating passages of Scripture for Christians today. In these “perilous” times like these, it is encouraging to know that God said such times would come. God is all-wise and knowing, and He alone knows the way through the Wilderness—all I have to do is follow! Amen!

The King James Bible, as no other book can do, reveals the future. Bible prophecy is history written in advance. The Holy Bible foretells that in the final (or last) days, furious times shall come. The word “perilous” carries the idea of “reducing the strength, difficult, that is, dangerous.” And we are told why it will be “perilous times” ... BECAUSE MEN (HUMANS) WILL BE LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES. That means people will become very selfish in the times before the Lord returns!

Today's selfish pastors don't care about the truth of God's Word. This Bible, that Bible, it doesn't matter! Some hypocritical pastor will argue, saying that he “doesn't support all the modern revisions.” But then put him on the spot, and ask him, “Which Bible's have been corrupted by Satan?” Ask him, Which one's should we avoid?” Today's pastors are selfish, lovers of their own selves. All that really matters to them, if we are to be totally honest, is their next salary paycheck! Truly, the love (desire) of money is the root of all evil (1st Timothy 6:10). Many of today's shameful pastors live like millionaires, but they preach like paupers!

Yes, the Holy Bible foretold that in the last days perilous times of human selfishness would come. Essentially, every crime committed is rooted in the selfish human nature. People steal because they want something that is not theirs. Countries go to war because one or both sides are being unreasonable and selfish. Men rape to fulfill their lusts. Women commit adultery to please their flesh and emotional passions.

Politicians lie for their own selfish benefit. When you think about it, all sins and crimes are based in selfishness to some degree. The oppossite of selfishness is to love thy neighbour as thyself. Romans 13:9, “For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Notice that abstaining from sins is mentioned along with loving one's neighbour as thyself!

Galatians 5:14, “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” James 2:8, “If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.” There is no greater command and duty for the born-again believer than to LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF. If we truly love others, then we will do what is best for them. Telling THE TRUTH about God's Word and the Gospel is loving thy neighbour as thyself. When pastors don't care about truth, they are hurting others, which is not God's love.

People are so horribly selfish these days. 2nd Timothy 3:1-2, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.” Americans are among the most selfish and foolish people on the planet. Many people donate some spare money to big name charities, who pay their leaders outrageous 6-digit salaries with that money, yet millions of poor people remain homeless on the streets and the money never gets to the hurting people who need it most. Churches and charities ought not be a means by which unethical charities exploit people's goodness and generosity in order to become personally wealthy! The average big name charity pays it's leader over TEN TIMES what the average American citizen earns in a year! Charities are an ungodly racket, but that is another topic for another time!
