The Sin Of Taking The Lord's Holy Name In Vain
By David J. Stewart | July 2014 | Updated June 2015
"Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." —Deuteronomy 5:11
There is no worse sin than cursing in the Lord's name. It is bad enough to curse in God's name when one becomes angry. It is even worse when a person curses in God's name in casual conversation. But it is infinitely worse when an evil Hollywood producer pays an actor to deliberately curse in the Lord's name, written in the movie's script, and then Hollywood knowing distributes tens-of-millions of copies of that ungodly movie for the world to see, hearing the actor(s) cursing in God's holy name. Hell will be hot enough!
There is nothing any more wicked than taking the Lord's name in vain. The Bible condemns taking the Lord's name “IN VAIN,” which means mentioning His holy name in a meaningless or irreverent way, not necessarily cursing in the Lord's name. We ought never speak the name of God or His dear Son Jesus Christ without using the utmost reverence, respect and fear. Psalms 36:1, “The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.” Romans 3:18, “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Hollywood movie scripts are written to repeatedly dishonor and blaspheme both God the Father and His precious Son Jesus Christ. The reason why is because Satan is the Boss of Hollywood and he wants the world to know it.
Jesus unconditionally loves Jewish people, and so do I with God's love, but Jewish Hollywood hates the Lord Jesus Christ with a passion. The Jews are still crucifying their Messiah 2,000 years later. Filthy-mouthed, Jewish comedian and actor, Sarah Silverman says...
“Good! I hope the Jews did kill Christ, I'd do it again. I'd F*cking do it again in a second!”
—Jewish comedian, Sarah Silverman, Jesus is Magic; 72-minute movie, 2006
Hollywood hates Jesus Christ. In the worldly science-fiction movie “PROMETHEUS” directed by Ridley Scott, there is a scene in the movie when a cross necklace is lowered into a glass, while being called “inappropriate.” The cross upon which Christ died for our sins is “inappropriate” to the Hollywood crowd, because it offends the pedophile perverts who own and operate Hollywood. 1st Corinthians 1:18, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” Ridley Scott thinks the cross of Christ is inappropriate and foolish because he is unsaved, still in his sins, and ready to perish into Hell forever if he doesn't repent and believe the Gospel (Mark 1:15).
Cursing in the Lord's name is the insignia of hellish Hollywood. Deuteronomy 5:11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” It is wickedness to utter God's name, or the name of His only begotten Son in a meaningless, casual or disrespectful way. It is not mere coincidence that men and women curse in God's name when they are at emotional, pleasurable and physical extremes. This is further evidence of the preeminence of Christ throughout history. Our very calendar time system is based upon the Lord's first coming to the earth. The term “B.C.” means “before Christ,” and “A.D.” means “in the year of our Lord.” Do you think this is a mere coincidence? Not a chance!
John 8:37, “...ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.”
Americans have sinfully become so used to hearing our Lord's name blasphemed, as an unholy thing, by Hollywood that it has become the new norm. It is wickedness of the worst kind. American society now commonly, but irreverently, utters “JESUS!” (the precious name of our Lord) as a curse word when they are angry, excited or surprised. For any one of a hundred reasons, people have gotten into the sinful habit of uttering the Lord's name in a careless manner. It gets much worse! Please read, “Jesus Christ's Middle Name is Not 'FU_KING!!'” It is unthinkable that men created in the very image of God would blaspheme God so horribly.
Hollywood accumulatively spends BILLIONS of dollars each year producing hundreds of movies, each and every one of which takes the Lord's name in vain. One of the worst ways of taking the Lord's name in vain is to exclaim “JESUS!” as an expression of frustration, anger or surprise. Oh, listen my friend, it is a very serious crime in God's eyes to blaspheme His holy name in any way. Philippians 2:9-10 teach that the name of JESUS is above every other name in the universe! No one should ever name their child Jesus, for it lessens and cheapens the significance of the Lord's name. If you wouldn't name your child “God,” then you ought not name your child Jesus, for He came to earth as God in the flesh (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; John 1:1-3,14; 1st Timothy 3:16).
When I used to work as a truck mechanic many years ago, a man told me that the little e-clips that were used on transmission shafts and other various mechanical components were called “Jesus clips.” I asked why and he said it was because those clips often snapped across the room while removing or installing them, and then the frustrated mechanic would utter “JESUS!” Well, I never used the Lord's name like that, but I heard many other men that did, and a whole lot worse. Humanity by our sinful nature hates God. Colossians 1:21, “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.” The world is alienated from God in their mind by WICKED WORKS. They are God's enemy!
Taking the Lord's name in vain includes any mention of God's name that does not glorify Him as God. To mention the name of Jesus in any manner that does not honor and respect Christ is a horrible sin, which the Bible warns in Deuteronomy 5:11 will not go unpunished! Deuteronomy 5:11 warns, “...FOR THE LORD WILL NOT HOLD HIM GUILTLESS THAT TAKETH HIS NAME IN VAIN.” The word “vain” means “empty.” It refers to using the Lord's name in any manner which does not glorify Him.
The Name Above Every Other Name
The Bible teaches that “Jesus” is the name above every other name, given to the Son by His Father in Heaven...
Philippians 2:9-11, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
The name of God has everything to do with all that God is. We praise God for what He does. We worship God for Who He is. To take the Lord's name in vain means to dishonor Him, belittle Him and despise Him. It is a sin, a horrible sin, to use God's name irreverently. The Bible tells us that Jesus came in His Father's name. John 5:43, “I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.” Acts 4:10-12 teaches that salvation cannot be found in any other name than the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is above every other name. This is why no parent should ever name their child “Jesus,” not in any culture. To make the name of Jesus a household commonality is to lessen the importance of Christ's name. Only the Son of God is truly worthy of the name of Jesus, given to Him by the heavenly Father.
The word “vain” in Deuteronomy 5:11 is the Hebrew word “shâv' shav” and means: “in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), literally (ruin) or morally (especially guile); figuratively idolatry (as false, subjectively), uselessness (as deceptive, objectively; also adverbially in vain): - false(-ly), lie, lying, vain, vanity.”
We must never diminish the name of Jesus. It is not coincidence that we never hear anyone curse in the name of Buddha, Allah, Muhammad, Zoroaster or Moroni. The reason is because only Jesus is the true Messiah, and all others are frauds.
Jesus said that He did miracles in the Father's name. John 10:25, “Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.” God's name is important. Everytime that someone curses in the Lord's name, they are showing forth the validity of God's Word. They are unknowingly testifying of the preeminence of Jesus Christ throughout the ages. Even in man's wickedness, while He is blaspheming His God, man is showing forth the sovereignty and existence of God.
Hollywood is an Immoral Septic Sewer!
I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Pullman, Charleston Heston, Sandra Bullock, Harrison Ford, and all the other infamous Hollywood actors who curse in God's name regularly on film. It is the height of wickedness for anyone to deliberately take the Lord's name in vain as part of a movie script. They're being paid millions of dollars to spit on God. God's curse is upon Hollywood, who pretend to produce family movies, but Hollywood is a cesspool of sexual perverts, adulterers, homosexuals and child molesters. Hollywood is as rotten as the Devil, a sewer of immorality.
Los Angeles and Hollywood are filled with kooks, quacks and queers. Hollywood has always been associated with adultery, pedophilia and homosexuality. Vanity Fair magazine in June of 2015 featured a shocking picture of Bruce Jenner as his newly transgendered makeover, Caitlyn Jenner. That's just sick!
