Lessons On Booze From The Disaster Of Lot's Life

by David J. Stewart | October 2019

From what I have seen in my life, alcohol is a gateway drug to other sins. Booze causes people to do things that they normally wouldn't do. We all have different areas of weakness when it comes to sin. Only you can identify the areas of weakness you have, but I would suspect that the alcohol is the culprit behind many sins. We can learn some important lessons from the mistakes of Abraham's nephew, Lot. When Lot got drunk, he had carnal knowledge with both of his daughters. Nobody made Lot drink that booze, he chose to drank it, as his daughters kept handing it to him. I don't think Lot ever would have commit incest unless he had been drinking booze. “Booze” is another name for Liquid Devil, alcohol!

Lot's worldly daughters conspired the whole thing. We learn from this tragic true story in the Bible about the dangers of booze. Lot became the grandfather of his own grandchildren. That is what alcohol does! I wonder if Lot ever found out from his daughters what he had done, because he was drunk and didn't have a clue. So we learn much from Lot (who was a Christian) about the risk and dangers of alcohol. I only mention these truths to help you my friend, and not to judge or condemn, God forbid. Booze is truly public enemy number one! ALCOHOL: PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE! (a powerful red-hot fiery MP3 sermon by Pastor Danny Castle). In Russian, many women cannot find a husband, because so many men have literally drank themselves to death drinking Vodka!

And in the United States, you'd think that drugs are the number one problem, but that is not true—ALCOHOL IS THE GATEWAY DRUG OF ALL DRUGS! I have never drank a single drop of alcohol in my life. I HATE BOOZE!!! I grew up watching people's lives destroyed by booze on Skid Row in Chicago...

Proverbs 20:1, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”

The apostle Paul himself struggled with sin in Romans 7:14-25. Paul did the things that he didn't want to do, and didn't do the things that he wanted to do. When a believer sins, the Holy Spirit convicts us about sin. It is good if we realize that the Holy Spirit is convicting us. That is one of the Holy Spirit's jobs, besides comforting the believer (John 14:16), and teaching the believer (John 14:26), He chastises us too (Hebrews 12:6-8). Thank God for the indwelling Holy Spirit! Pastor Jack Hyles authored a helpful book titled: MEET THE HOLY SPIRIT. The Holy Spirit is God living within us, as God's child. John 14:17, “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” Oh, what a joy to know the Holy Spirit! What a jot that God Himself chose to live inside the body of every born-again believer!

And Oh, what a sad thing it is, that the unregenerate person (i.e., the unsaved man) does not KNOW the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that the world cannot SEE HIM, neither do they KNOW HIM! As Christians, we see things from an entirely different spiritual perspective than the unsaved person does, because God's Spirit has opened our eyes. 1st Corinthians 2:16, “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” That is why God didn't need to make the Holy Bible much thicker than He did. God has already given us 788,280 inspired Words in the King James Bible! The reason why we don't need a bigger Bible is because a Christian believer who is mature in the Lord doesn't need a bigger Bible, for WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST in us! Galatians 5:14, “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” The United States government has over ONE MILLIONS laws, codes and regulations to govern our society! I believe that in the coming 1,000 year millennial reign of Christ that there will be only ONE LAW BOOK—THE WORD OF GOD!

Satan only tries to throw one's past in their face, to discourage them from serving God. The Holy Spirit is only concerned about present sins. When the woman caught "in the act" of adultery in John chapter 8, was dragged before the Lord, He did not condemn her. Instead, the Lord forgave her and said: "GO AND SIN NO MORE!" That is what God says to us all... GO AND SIN NO MORE! Obviously we will sin, because we are still in the flesh, but we don't have to sin at any given time, if we so choose. When we sin, we are walking in the flesh. If we walk in the Spirit, we won't commit sin. So we see that there is a constant struggle between the Spirit and the flesh. But to gain the victory over sin as a master in your life, you must saturate your mind and heart with the Word of God.

Avoid worldly friend and places. Avoid things that cause temptation. Some people never learn, because they love their sins and don't really want the victory. Prisons are full of such people. Here is a life-changing film that I recommend for you to watch, called: "TWICE PARDONED"...

As we grow in the Lord, we will begin to hate sin but love people. Some religious people hate other people, which is not God's unconditional love. And some religious people love everyone, but tolerate sin and don't hate wickedness, which is not God's holiness. So there is a balance to be maintained. Something is wrong with a believer who doesn't hate sin, nor one who doesn't love people. We cannot love God if we don't love people, and we cannot love people if we don't love God! Walking with God makes the difference! Oh that men would love God and hate sin! If you grow Fonz in your love for God, you will hate sin more, and it will help you gain the victory over sin. I hate the sins in my life because I love God. You learn to love God more by thinking about what He means to you, and what He does for you, and what He has done for you (by sending His only begotten Son to Calvary to pay for your sins).

We are so blessed by God. But by the grace of God, you or I could be this poor 34 year old man. Jeff says he is happy. Would we be happy like that? But by the grace of God, we'd be burning in the fires of Hell. And so, these thoughts compel me to "fear God and keep His commandments" (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

I hope some of my words are helpful to you Fonz. God loves you and has a purpose for your life. The sins that you are struggling with are not the big issue. The big issue is what those sins keep you from doing to serve God. Pastor Jack Hyles has a whole sermon on this needful subject called: "Our Mixed Up Fundamental Christianity"...
