Why Did Satan Take Jesus Up Into An Exceeding High Mountain?

By David J. Stewart | July 2014

Matthew 4:8-9, “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.”

In Matthew 4:1-11 the Bible records the temptation of our dear Lord three times by Satan. I don't care how good of a Christian you may think you are, no servant is greater than his Master (John 13:16). If the sinless Lamb of God had to endure temptation by demonic powers, then so will every disciple of Christ. Satan comes to each and every child of God and tries to get them off the path of obedience to God. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).

The Bible says that Satan had failed twice to get our Savior to sin. So the third time Satan went for broke, offering Jesus all that this evil world has to offer. Satan literally offered Jesus the entire world. Satan offered to make Jesus ruler over the whole world, and all the wealth, pleasures, fame and fortune that goes with it. We see millions of people selling their souls to Satan today!

Do you know why Satan took Jesus up into a very high mountain to show Him the kingdoms of the world? It's simply because it all look good from far away. If Satan had taken Jesus up close where the common people live, the Lord would have seen poverty, sickness, broken homes, shattered marriages, the imprisoned and dying. Satan never shows anyone close-up what's really going on. Satan shows the world the neon-lights of Sin City Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas is one great big mafia-controlled, Mormon-employed, whore-house of shame and sin! The wicked Chamber Of Commerce lure victims into sexual sins with the slogan: What HAPPENS in Vegas STAYS in Vegas. May I say, what happens in Vegas is RECORDED in Heaven! (Revelation 20:12).

Satan shows the world the bright lights and neon signs of Sin City, but he doesn't show you the prisons, morgues, hospitals and abundance of homeless families surviving on the streets.

They Knew Not Until The Flood Came

Luke 17:26-27, “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.”
